Summary of Duties: Develop new machinery and hardware used for the control and monitoring of automated manufacturing equipment including robots, end-effectors, tooling, conveyors, AGVs, hoists, bridges, and catwalks. CAD packages and analytical tools to design and build hardware proof of concepts for tooling, part holding, conveyance, mechanisms, and structures. Develop request for proposals to including tooling, end-effectors, conveyance, and other mechanical devices. Develop preliminary engineering designs, conduct feasibility studies, and develop project cost estimates. Communicate with suppliers and guide their mechanical engineering departments on detailed implementations. Perform pFMEA and rFMEA to help drive robust automation processes and reliability. Perform Factory and Site Acceptance testing to validate equipment hardware systems functionality. Support plant equipment startup and debug by working with third party system integrators. Perform onsite training for operations and maintenance personnel. Support multiple plants to resolve mechanical failures and drive to long term resolution with supplier. Develop world-class automation mechanical integration standards that minimize development time, commissioning time, and unplanned downtime. Write and own the standards, specifications, and procedures that must be followed by external vendors designing manufacturing equipment for Champion. Specify (ANSURIA15.06/OSHA compliant) control reliable safety systems for safeguarding robots, gantries, conveyors, and other high volume manufacturing equipment.
50% travel required to client sites nationwide.
Qualifications: Master's degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Fabrication Engineering, or related field of study and 10 years of experience as a Mechanical Design and Integration Manager, Mechanical Design Manager, or related occupation. Employer will accept a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Fabrication Engineering, or related field of study and 12 years of experience as a Mechanical Design and Integration Manager, Mechanical Design Manager, or related occupation in lieu of a Master's degree and 10 years of experience.
Applicants must have demonstrated experience with the following:
- 10 years of experience with: 2D and 3D CAD Modeling and analysis; manage large complex projects requiring multiple suppliers to complete; reliability and repeatability testing to verify design intent; and dive deep, invent and simplify bias for action and deliver results.
- 5 years of experience with: Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) to simulate performance of a design from CAD; air, hydraulic, and electrical systems for the build of a mechanical systems; material science for proper material selection of components that make up various parts of the machine; and strong understanding of control systems so that mechanical design can facilitate and sustain the functionality of the machine when controlled.
- 3 years of experience with: Finite Element Analysis to determine behavior of a mechanical system under static and dynamic loading.
